Publicly funded television and radio programing has become a waste of money for our government. What with heading the conflict in Libya and the war we have in the Middle East we can not be wasting money on public programs.
The end of publicly funded television and radio programming could be devastating for Americans. Perhaps that sounds hyperbolic, but it is not. Programs like National Public Radio (NPR), the Corporation for Public Broadcasting (CPB), and Public Broadcasting Service (PBS) are not the entertainment-based, liberal subsidies that the conservatives in Congress pretend they are. In fact, they provide vital services to all Americans.
Due to the global economic downturn and governmental corruption, revolutions in Tunisia, Libya and Egypt have occurred. It is unlikely this trend will continue, however, because of the determination of the remaining regimes to stay in power in the Arab world. Furthermore the western world, specifically the United States, will use diplomatic pressure to maintain the governments of their allies.
Sexual misconduct between teachers and students has always been, and will continue to be, an issue in schools. Simply creating a set of guidelines to limit teacher-student communication will not be effective in reducing sexual misconduct, even though its purpose is to, “protect students from sexual misconduct and abuse [while] providing a safe and healthy environment for teaching and learning.”
Communication and interactions between teachers and students is a common thing in schools; however, when it begins to go outside of school is where it gets dangerous and out of hand. Teachers text-messaging, contacting students through social networks like Facebook or meeting excessively with specific students is inappropriate, unnecessary.
Recent surveys by TIME magazine revealed that 61 percent of Americans do not support the building of an Islamic community center in Manhattan, two blocks from Ground Zero.
