The orchestra’s yearly Pops concert will be held much earlier this year due to renovation demands. According to choral director Catherine Bond, this will be the last orchestra performance held at Marshall until the new auditorium is finished.
Rescheduled for May 3, this free concert will also be the final performance for 12 seniors, who will be honored either through solo performances or renditions of songs chosen by the honoree. Cellist Brendan Metzger, senior, chose to be in the solo performance and will be playing a part in the Orchestra’s rendition of “Pavone for a Dead Princess.”
“It’s one of my favorite pieces,” Metzger said. “I have a special emotional connection to it … It’s one of those special pieces, I guess.”
The Pops concert will be a combined performance for the Advanced and Intermediate orchestras and will focus on contemporary music, though there will be some classical pieces performed as well.
Ranging from R&B to the James Bond theme, Bond hopes that the concert will “introduce students to different music, creative processes, and help them become better musicians.”
Though the construction work has forced a change of date on the performance, practices have not been affected by the renovation, Metzger said.
Performances next year will not be held at Marshall as the Auditorium will be closed indefinitely, starting late May. Bond is looking into booking churches for future performances.
