The girls freshman basketball team defeated Edison High School 58 to eight on Thursday, January 18. The girls were led by Tessa Murphy, who scored nine points for the freshman team that now holds a 10-1 record.
The girls were up 20 to four after the first quarter, and they were able to continue to build on that lead throughout the final three quarters because of their commitment to sharing the ball.
“We were able to jump to such a good lead because we really wanted to work on our offense and [ball movement],” Murphy said.
MaryMargaret Lusick, starting forward for the freshmen, finds it difficult to play in games such as this one that lack a certain flow.
“It’s hard for me because we really have to slow down our offense and work on passing,” Lusick said. “When we’re playing a better team we can get fast breaks and really work on a good offense.”
Starting guard Catie Cryan said that in order for the freshmen to have a strong second half to the season, they need to improve their shooting and decision making offensively.
“I think we really need to improve our shooting and [our ability to run] the offense properly and [our decision making of] when to drive and when to pass,” Cryan said. “I feel like when we are driving, we don’t see the [screener] when she rolls to the basket… and most of the time she’s open.”
