Sophomore Regina Honigford began dancing at the age of six, and is currently on four dance teams. She is also taking classes, and currently participating in a preprofessional program.

She started her career on an all star cheer team at Infinity.

“At first, I didn’t want to join dance, but one of the coaches convinced me to take a workshop class and eventually to try out for a team,” Honigford said.

She said she was later forced to choose between dance and cheer after the place she attended closed down.

“I ended up choosing dance and went to Velocity, and that was my first year on a senior team,” Honigford said. “I was in sixth grade and everyone else on the team was in high school.”

In addition to attending dance practices and competing, Honigford participated in a dance music video to Sam Smith’s new song “Dancing With a Stranger.”

“One of my coaches had heard the song and came up with the entire vision, and him and another coach made the choreography,” Honigford said. “It was filmed by Artem Koker and produced by Arazo Media, and is expected to be sent to Sam Smith as an opportunity for him to promote it.”

Though this was the first time she participated in a professional music video, Honigford said she plans on being in more concept videos in the future.

“In the future, I hope to do something with dance as I’ve been lucky enough to be able to make professional connections at such a young age,” Honigford said.
