Senior Clara Ford was chose as the starting center for the Division 6A 2nd Virginia All-State team.

The Virginia High School Coaches Association (VHSCA) noted Ford’s performance during the 2017-18 girls basketball season. Ford, who was previously selected for the 2017 5A 2nd All-State team, is the 18th best player in her position according to ESPN. Standing at six feet three inches tall, Ford will be the tallest starting player on the team.

“[Clara Ford is an] athletic, versatile interior prospect [who] out-quicks defenders in the paint,” ESPN scout Dan Olson said. Olson scouted Ford during an ESPNW sponsored basketball tournament.

Although she said the attention from Olson certainly wasn’t harmful, Ford believes that scouting was not the reason she is now a member of the team.

“The scouts are there to help get players recruited for college,” Ford said, “So the scouting report might’ve [helped] me get some recognition, but not a whole lot.”

Ford attributes her success to her work ethic not just during the basketball season, but in the offseason as well.

“Prior to this off-season, I’ve done skills programs and played on a really tough AAU team to get my game up as much as possible before my season,” Ford said.

Ford is currently committed to Boston University, where she will continue to play center for the Eagles.
