The Entrepreneurship class hosted their annual Market Day on Dec. 5 in the cafeteria, where they sold a variety of products to attendees.

The Entrepreneurship class purchased the items that they sold on their trip to New York City. These purchases included items such as makeup, blankets, and scrunchies. The Entrepreneurship students competed in groups of three to sell all of their products and make the most profit.

“It [Market Day] is sort of a tradition now,” junior and Entrepreneurship student Renzie Enaje said. “I think that this project helps students explore and better understand the business world.”

This activity is not only recreational, it also gives participants some insight into what it is like to run a business in the real world. During the NYC trip, the Entrepreneurship class split up into groups. The advisors gave each group 90 dollars to purchase items, while they worked to maintain a set budget and think of ways to increase their profit.

Entrepreneurship teacher Stephanie Harmony chose a wholesale area for the young entrepreneurs to visit during their trip in order to help them budget their money wisely.

“This project gives us a chance to test our financial and business skills,” Enaje said. “As well as allowing us to experience what it’s like to be part of a team.”

If gaining business experience is not enough to make the students want to participate, the financial aspect of the activity might. Junior and Entrepreneurship student Julie Damaash said Harmony’s class coordinates with the Faith company every year, who provides them with the money needed for their purchases.

“Most of the profit goes back to the Faith company,” Daamash said. “But whatever we have left we get to keep, and I think many students look forward to that.”

After the class returns from New York, they create and decorate posters and come up with a name for their business.

“I really care about how my poster looks,” Daamash said. “If your poster doesn’t look good, you’re not going to attract customers to your business.”

Harmony said the Entrepreneurship class grows more and more successful every year in mentoring young entrepreneurs through their annual Market Day event.
