During a scrimmage against George Mason High School on March 10, sophomore Anna Zelenski defends against a mid-fielder. The team won the scrimmage 3-1 and are now preparing for the regular season.

“I thought we were progressing throughout the game. We started out slow and then towards the second half we started playing faster and faster,” senior Sheila Albertson said. “We’re getting to know each other more and more since everyone’s style of play is different and we need to get used to each other.”soccerfinal

Zelenski is one of four sophomores to make the varsity team this year. According to the coaches, the varsity team cut a number of returning players, as there was a larger pool of capable players to chose from.

“Each year we’ve been here, the talent has been better. We had some really tough cuts we had to make,” head coach Ann Germain said. “I think each year the technical and tactical abilities of the players have been better and even the mind-set of [players] willing to push themselves harder.”
