The swim team took their first meet of the year with big wins as the girls team won 212–88 and the boys won 223–81 against Robert E. Lee High School. Dive took first place on both sides of the meet.
With a victory on Dec. 4, the swim and dive teams went home excited after their first wins since early last year.
“[I am] proud of all the freshman swimmers and how they swam in their first meet,” coach Matt Hochstrasser said.
For the team’s two new freshmen, Timothy Proudkii and Emma Williams, this meet was their first on a school team.
“I did this last year privately, but being on a school team is just so much better because I have people I really know backing me up,” Proudkii said.
The team’s outlook is largely positive for the new year of meets, according to sophomore Grace Cusack, who expressed that a strong start was just what was needed for the team to be competitive this year. Cusack also took home first place on the girls side of the dive portion of the meet.
“I’m so glad we got a strong start after last year’s meets, where [we] didn’t win a lot. I think that this might make all the difference,” Cusack said.
