The sports department and school community managed several fundraising events in order to spread awareness and raise money for hospitalized sophomore Justin Lee and his family this week.

All ticket sale proceeds from the varsity baseball and softball games against Wakefield High School, as well as from the varsity boys soccer game against Thomas Jefferson High School last night, went to Justin and his family. Over $1,300 dollars were collected for the cause. The varsity softball players wore purple instead of their usual uniform colors in honor of Justin.

The boys basketball program will host a pizza night fundraiser at Ledo’s Pizza tomorrow. Twenty percent of the sales will go to Justin’s family.

Purple wristbands that read #JUSTINSTRONG are being sold for $1 each by history teacher Sean Rolon in room D105. The wristbands were also sold last night at the aforementioned games.

Justin’s GoFundMe page, which was set up to allow people to donate money to his cause, reached its goal of $50,000 in donations on April 10 and is currently nearing $60,000.

“I think it’s important that we remember Justin and remember what he’s going through right now,” Rolon said. “I think anything we can do to bring awareness to that is helpful.”
