Later this school year, Anime Club will be hosting its own anime convention known as Marshall Convention or simply “MarCon.”

“A lot of the time people don’t really have money to go to conventions or time” club president senior Katerina Liappis said. “It would be nice to have people go and actually experience a convention for themselves.”

As part of the convention, MarCon plans to have Japanese food, a movie and a cosplay competition.

“We do have the space ready, so it is going to happen and it’s going to be like an actual anime convention,” junior Lauren van Veen said.

The convention will also act as an end of the school year celebration for the club.

“[It could be] a little celebration at the end of the school year,” said vice president junior Tarnya Wright.

In order to make money for Marcon, the club had to hold its first ever fundraisers.

“We haven’t really done any fundraisers until this year because last we were kind of getting off our feet,” Liappis said.

“They are looking to get some sponsors to help maybe through a comic book store or the Angelica,” said club sponsor and English teacher Jonathan Super.

The club has also experienced a surge in productivity.

“Last year there was an Anime Club, but no one did anything, all they did was sit and watch anime. We didn’t want the Anime Club to be that way” Liappis said.
