Rank & File: What previous programs have you participated in that helped prepare you for playing varsity sports in high school?

Lauren Kaup: I used to do winter swim for York; I did that for about four years. I would do meets for them and we did a lot of hardcore training to prepare for Marshall swim.

R&F: Were you nervous to compete as an underclassman on varsity?

LK: When I was a freshman we had some really good seniors, so I was really nervous going into our first meet, but they were all really nice and that made it really easy and fun to get used to.

R&F: Is it difficult to play a different sport every season?

LK: Well, swimming is a lot different than field hockey and soccer because it’s not running.  Even if I’m in shape from field hockey, swimming shape is different from running shape. It’s hard to get back in the water; it’s kind of like re-learning everything.

R&F: Did you expect to play all three of these sports in high school?

LK: I always wanted to play all the sports, but I never thought that I would actually be able to play varsity for as long as I have for each of them.

R&F: Do you have college plans for any of these sports?

LK: I’m going to a bunch of field hockey showcases this year and I’ve contacted a lot of colleges to come watch me, so hopefully they’ll notice me and take interest.
