The Golden Globes is traditionally a time for actresses to show off their unique red carpet style. This year, at the 69th annual ceremony on Jan. 15, there was no exception.

Actresses took risks with nude or pale colored dresses and plunging necklines. Mermaid style dresses, a prominent fashion trend at previous events in the past year, also dazzled on the red carpet last Sunday. Relaxed hairstyles and natural makeup with a pop of bright lip color accompanied the trend.

Best-Dressed:
Angelina Jolie stood out amongst the crowd of A-list celebs in a white, floor length Atiler Versace dress with a triangle-shaped red neckline accent. She and husband Brad Pitt in a Ferragamo tux were arguably the best dressed couple of the night. Jolie was nominated for her work on the film In the Land of Blood and Honey, which she directed.

A close second, however, was couple George Clooney and Stacy Keibler. The couple went classic, with Clooney in a bow tie and tux and Keibler in a red mermaid gown with a deep scoop neckline.

Also standing out on the red carpet was The Help’s Octavia Spencer, who won best supporting actress. She wore a David Meister lavender gown that showed off her curves, accessorized with tear shaped earrings and Louboutin heels.

Worst-Dressed:
While most actors and actresses looked stunning in designer gowns and accessories to die for, actresses Lea Michelle and Sarah Michelle Geller wore outfits that did not meet expectations. Geller showed up in what looked like a frumpy, blue tie dyed bedsheet. According to Us magazine, the actress let her two year old daughter choose the outfit. Did she let her paint it too?

Glee star Lea Michelle’s metallic lace dress showed a little too much skin. At last year’s Golden Globes Michelle garnered the attention of the fashion world in a light pink, one shouldered Oscar de la Renta gown and a messy yet sophisticated updo. While that dress was girlish and classically pretty, this year’s dress was too dark and morose on the young actress.
