I can’t believe that we’re already a month into school and I’ve started my second year as editor-in-chief of the Marshall paper. One of the benefits of being able to work on a long term project is being able to implement more than just a single year long goal.
Last year, our goal for the paper was to make the Rank & File a public forum that was truly reflective of the entire Marshall community. With the addition of the Letters to the Editor sidebar in the Opinion section and a thrust amongst the section editors to cover different parts of the Marshall community, I think the Rank & File was able to broaden the range of stories that we published.
This year, the staff has grown from 12 members to 19. But, just like our staff is transitioning, so is the school. As we start our renovation process, watch each successive freshmen class grow and approach the school’s 50th birthday, the Rank & File will help communicate the changes that come with a growing school.
We will continue our in-depth coverage and insightful reflections on the issues facing the student body and entire Marshall community. We hope to build on the paper’s past accomplishments, continue to incorporate as much of the school into the paper as possible and work with the school in transitioning into our new Marshall.

Sincerely,
Devon Maloney
Editor-in-Chief
