I moved from Illinois after my freshman year in high school. I thought that the school would be almost the exact same as Illinois, both socially and academically. Socially, it was, because high school is pretty much the same anywhere you go, but academically, boy was I mistaken. Never before had I heard of International Baccalaureate, the Lunch and Learn system, or having only four classes in a day. In Illinois, at least where I’m from, Quincy, we had AP classes, lunch in shifts with absolutely no learning going on, and all seven classes each day. The level of difficulty was not as great as it is here in Northern Virginia. The uniqueness of Marshall academics, such as the wide variety of subjects and the Lunch and Learn system, make for a true learning environment that succeeds in helping students better themselves. And although I miss Illinois on occasion, and stress out about the next big test or essay, I am so grateful for the plethora of opportunities that arose from the IB program at Marshall, which challenge me every day and lead me to greater success as not only a student, but a person.
