This Saturday, at the Audrey Moore RECCenter, swim and dive will be competing at districts. During their McLean meet last week, Head Coach Ann Jopke said that she was putting out one of the best line-ups in order to prepare for the upcoming competition.
“We’re really working on small details and getting our swimmers ready to go,” Jopke said. “The last few weeks we’ve probably had the most difficult practices we’ve had and now we’re going to start to rest the swimmers a little bit so they can be at their top form.”
Four individuals have qualified for states and two others have qualified for regionals.
According to junior July Laszakovitz this year’s training was different than last year’s because it involved more technique.
As districts near, practices are getting increasingly less intense, sophomore Julia Eltzroth said, “I see districts as one last chance to improve your time, and try to make regionals.”
Most swim and dive team members choose to stay after school whenever there is practice because there is a bus brings the swimmers to Providence RECenter.
“Sometimes it gives you an opportunity to talk to teachers, make up tests, work on homework or do other things, but it can also just be time to relax before going to practice,” Eltzroth said.
“I feel pretty confident,” sophomore Cordell Stearns stated. “We have a good coach and we should be able to win.”
