On Feb. 3 and 4, IB Film Study will
be holding a film festival in the auditorium during Lunch & Learn where IB Film students will be showcasing their own trailers as a part of their film study project.
The objective of the project was for students to make a trailer from clips from other movies (or one movie) and attempt to create an entirely new perspective on the styles of film making learned in class.
According to Film Study teacher Pierce Bello, there will be somewhere between 20 to 50 trailers shown at the festival.
“We wanted showcase what we were doing in the course to other people, to attract people to possibly take Film Study and to show what we’ve learned,” Bello said.
The project was originally due before winter break. However, due to numerous technical problems with the computers and software, the due date was moved to January.
Senior Caitlin Greene explained that she and her partner were “taking Hairspray and turning it from its happy, musical, fun-time movie-ness into a horror movie.”
Junior Eric Wickert said the most difficult part about the project was cutting up the movie and rearranging it to make the trailer flow. Greene echoed similar sentiments.
“There are some computers that only accept one kind of program and Mr. Bello prefers that we use Adobe Premier Elements but Marie Firth’s [Greene’s partner] computer, which is an Apple, doesn’t support that system, so we’re using iMovie.”
Finding time to work on the movie was hard as well because of scheduling conflicts, but Greene said that it was fun recreating and manipulating the movie trailer.
“I don’t know if I’m going to enter anything in [the film festival] yet,” she added.
“I mean … I’m not too sure, but it’s something that I think would be interesting, you know?”
