Thanks to a Sunday evening update, stories posted to the Rank & File Web site may include photographs for the first time.
This new capability is just the next step in the newspaper’s ongoing quest to create a professional-grade online edition.
This feature was implemented by installing a new module in the publication’s content management system that allows staff members to attach a photograph to any story. A few small modifications to the PHP scripts that power the site were also necessary to allow images to be embedded directly in the text.
Newspaper adviser Daniel Reinish said he is excited that his staff will have this important tool at their disposal.
“Photography is one of the core features of journalism,” Reinish said. “Without it, our Web site could only tell half the story.”
Clicking the preview-sized photograph on a teaser page will take users directly to the related story. When viewing the story, users may click on the small photograph to see a larger version.
