The Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA) team competed at the 2010 Northern Virginia FBLA Spring Regional Conference on Mar. 8, placing in 14 out of the 52 categories.
Competition categories covered a range of topics including computer sciences, business, marketing and public speaking.
Competitors in ninth through twelfth grade who achieved a high placement in any one category at the competition, held at George Mason University, will advance to the state FBLA conference. 10 competitors recieved first place in their categories.
Currently, FBLA is also competing in the LifeSmarts competition, which is a game-show style program in which competitors can answer questions on a variety of topics.
“LifeSmarts is very similar to It?s Academic,” FBLA advisor Kimberly Fields said.
There are a variety of ways in which participants can compete in the program.
“Some parts of [LifeSmarts] can be completed [online] in a business class, while others are more involved,” freshman Danny Glass, who placed third in Introduction to Business Communications, said.
FBLA has participated in LifeSmarts for three years in a row. Fields looks forward to the possibility of advancing to Nationals in Miami, Florida.
“[FBLA] is a phenomenal organization,” Glass said. “It will really get you involved [in] a business career.”
FBLA is also going to sponsor several upcoming events, including a resume writing workshop, an international etiquette luncheon on April 15 and a Junior Achievement event.
