Tomorrow, WORD and Amnesty International clubs will collaborate on the event Slamnesty. Slamnesty will be held afterschool in English teacher Laura Chu?s room, 233.
According to junior Caitlyn Greene, Slamnesty is a poety slam with a theme of human rights.
?My poetry is about diversity and how we should celebrate it,? Greene said. ?I was inspired by Pablo Neruda?s poem ?Ode to an Artichoke.?
According to junior Rayn Epremiam, the event is a precursor to Jamnesty, which will take place later this year.
?We?re hoping to get people involved an generate support for the two clubs,? Epremiam said.
Slamnesty is open to club members, as well as the rest of the student body.
?I really hope enough people get into it and bring poetry,? junior Laura Rubin said ?It could be really fun and raise a lot of awareness, plus if you don?t come for the human rights aspect of [slamnesty], it?ll still be interesting to hear other peoples poetry and, of course, eat.?
Amnesty and WORD have been working together in order to provide a ?new and cool way to gather support both clubs and important issues,? junior Meghana Munnaluri said.
