When the earthquake first hit Haiti, relief groups had no time to lose. They immediately began to collect money to help get Haiti back on its feet.

Many national organizations offer quick and effortless opportunities to donate money to Haiti. For example, cell phone service providers allow people to send a text to donate $10 to Haiti. Additionally, over 75 recording artists released a remake of Michael Jackson?s ?We are the World,? proceeds from which will go to Haiti.

?I think it?s a good idea to make donating to Haiti easy, especially in this time of year when everyone is busy,? sophomore Sina Jahanshahi said.

One problem encountered by national groups, however, was that money donated by text could not be spread across organizations until customers paid their phone bills.

Service clubs throughout the school are also planning to raise funds in the next few weeks. National Honor Society (NHS) is collecting change until March 8.

?Everyone has change that can they can donate, so it is a simple and convenient way to help the community,? senior Ipsita Salim said.

Also on March 8, the International club, in collaboration with International Baccalaureate board and NHS, plans to hold Haiti Night and a silent auction to showcase Haitian culture.
